Posttraumatic stress disorder (post-traumatic stress disorder / PTSD) is a mental disorder that appears after a person experiences a traumatic experience in life. PTSD is characterized by fear and anxiety continues.
PTSD symptoms usually appear shortly after a traumatic event. People with PTSD are always overshadowed by the possibility of a repeat of events that threaten their safety so they often have nightmares, feel abandoned, angry, embarrassed too.
Researchers from Michigan State University found in people who have high levels of neurotic, personality type which is characterized by excessive anxiety and fear, has the risk of PTSD in the future.
The study was conducted on 1000 people who monitored his health for a decade. The participants were asked to answer questions about a neurotic level at the beginning of the study, then continued in year 3, 5 and 10 years. At the end of the study about half of the participants reported experiencing symptoms similar to trauma and about 5 percent suffer from PTSD.
The link between those who score high neurotic suffering from PTSD is very strong. “The study shows people who often feel very vulnerable suffer from PTSD,” said Naomi Breslau, associate professor of epidemiology who did this research.
According to the Mayo Clinic, other risk factors for PTSD include experiencing violence in childhood, suffered from depression (or a family member is depressed), and do not have strong support. Women are also more likely to suffer from PTSD than men.
